Mirza Asadullah Khan better known as Mirza Ghalib

Ghalib (Urdu: غاؔلِب‬‎, Hindi: ग़ालिब), born Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan (Urdu: مِرزااسَدُاللہ بیگ خان‬, Hindi: मिर्ज़ा असदुल्लाह् बेग ख़ान), 27 December 1797 – 15 February 1869), was a prominent Urdu and Persian-language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib (Urdu: غالِب‬, ġhālib means “dominant”) and Asad (Urdu: اسَد‬, Asad means “lion”). His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. He witnessed the Mughal empires were eclipse, displacement and finally deposement by the British, following the defeat of the Indian rebellion of 1857. He wrote innumerable notable ghazals, which have given his poetry immortality and been sung in by almost everysinger familiar with his work.

Ghalib, the last great poet of the Mughal Era, is considered to be one of the most famous and influential poets of the Urdu and Persian languages. Today Ghalib remains popular across the subcontinent and the Hindustani diaspora around the world Mirza  Ghalib ki Haveli (his residence) is situated at Gali Qasim Jaan, Ballimaran, one of bylanes in Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk.
