National Girl Child Day, 24 Jan 2016
Celebrating in the SAKSHI Center in Badshahpur, Gurgaon.
Behind the celebrations of this day lies a dark and ugly reality. Our Society discriminates against the girl child in innumerable ways, We all need to awaken the collective conscience and bring back to our beautiful country an era where the Feminine was SHAKTI, The land in which the girl is welcomed, given equal opportunity and allowed to flower, develop and contribute meaningfully to the very society where she is less than welcome today.
It is a strange dichotomy , for we have millions of parents who welcome the girl child, and give her every opportunity possible, as it was for me and my friends. In this same era and geography exists also a society where the girl child is a lesser being – difficult to understand, terrible to behold!
Our celebrations –
Starting with Prabhat Pheri, songs and skits in the communityand then Pledges signed by those in the village for protecting the rights of the girl child, Followed by a celebration in the centre’s grounds with whole hearted participation by the children
